Seawind Yacht

Seawind yachts are kit yachts made by Kyosho of Japan.  They come complete with all parts less the electronic servos and radio gear.  The hull will require some initial shaping to remove all the injection moulding excesses but otherwise it is an easy kit for a father / son type project.
The yachts are designed around a traditional 1990s style Americas Cup style hull and sail very well in light airs.  Any full scale yacht designer who can make a yacht accelerate at anything like the same speed will surely be very rich indeed.

Because of the deck detailing the Seawind looks fine as a display model too.  However once the wind freshens these yachts tend to become quickly over powered and seem to struggle to perform well.

The plain sails are precut from a single piece of spinnaker type cloth which although cut with a slight curve in the luff (the leading edge) to accommodate mast bend and fine tuning they are not as adaptable or as predictable as the panelled sails of other classes are.  Nevertheless I really enjoy sailing this yacht and as you will see from the video below they are quick and good looking.
